Real Madrid and Barcelona Could Be Tempted by Clause in New Deal

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is reportedly in negotiations for a new contract, with discussions potentially including a release clause that could attract interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to The Express, Haaland is seeking to replicate a release clause similar to the one that allowed him to leave Borussia Dortmund for Manchester City in 2022. While the Norwegian forward initially signed a five-year contract with City, two years of that deal have already elapsed, and rumors suggest a release clause could be included in any extension.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have long expressed interest in bringing Haaland to Spain, having competed for his signature before City’s successful acquisition. The clause, if included, could provide the La Liga clubs a pathway to sign Haaland in the future.

Manchester City, meanwhile, would likely prefer to exclude any such clause from the deal to maintain control over the player’s future amid rising speculation.
