Everton are now leading the race to sign a Man Utd defender, while Chelsea and Man City will battle it out for a Premier League winger…
TOFFEES HAVE SWEET TOOTH FOR MAGUIRE
Everton have leapt to the front of the queue to sign Man Utd defender Harry Maguire this summer, according to reports.
The England international had the the Red Devils captaincy taken away from him this summer with Erik ten Hag looking to move in a different direction by making Bruno Fernandes the new skipper.
After falling down the pecking order under Ten Hag last season, it now seems extremely likely that Maguire will depart Man Utd this summer, despite relentless enthusiasm for staying on at Old Trafford.
Maguire is not short of suitors this summer with Everton, West Ham and Tottenham all believed to be interested in the former Sheffield United centre-back.
The main stumbling block to any deal could be the transfer fee with Man Utd looking for £35m after spending £80m to bring him to Manchester from Leicester City in 2019.
West Ham have already had a £20m bid rejected for the 30-year-old and Football Insider claim that Everton have now ‘leapfrogged Tottenham and West Ham in the race to sign’ to sign Maguire.
It is understood that Chelsea ‘have registered their interest’ alongside the other three Premier League clubs with Man Utd ‘willing to sell’ him.
A report yesterday insisted that West Ham are considering a second offer for Maguire and Football Insider insist that Everton ‘have also made a move for Maguire and they represent what is seen as a strong option for the player’.
CHELSEA AND MAN CITY IN PREMIER LEAGUE BATTLE
Chelsea and Man City ‘are both ramping up their efforts to land’ Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, according to reports.
The France Under-21 international had a brilliant season for the Eagles last term with the 21-year-old contributing two goals and 11 assists for his team-mates.
Fabrizio Romano and other journalists have claimed that Olise has a release clause at Selhurst Park worth £35m – but the Daily Mirror claims there is ‘uncertainty about whether or not he has a release clause’
Chelsea and Man City are both ‘looking to add him to their ranks as they eye reinforcements on the flanks’ with that buyout clause attractive to the Premier League duo.
There were suggestions that his release clause had been removed during contract negotiations – but The Athletic report that he will be available for £35m this summer.
Roy Hodgson admitted earlier this week that there is a “slight doubt” about whether Palace will be able to hang onto Olise this summer and that they have a “fight on our hands” to keep him at the club.
