Manchester United is determined to put an end to their rivals, Manchester City’s, pursuit of replicating their iconic treble in the upcoming FA Cup Final next month.
The Red Devils, led by manager Erik ten Hag in his first season, have their sights set on securing their second piece of silverware. However, their priority also lies in preventing their neighbors from equaling their historic triumph from 1999.
Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has already claimed the Premier League title and remains in contention for both the Champions League and FA Cup.
The current FA Cup holders are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but they were eliminated in the fourth round by Brighton, leaving Manchester City and Manchester United as the remaining contenders.
In the semi-finals, City comfortably defeated Sheffield United 3-0, while the Red Devils overcame Brighton in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.
The highly anticipated 2022/23 FA Cup final is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 3, at Wembley Stadium.
Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, expressed his thoughts on the potential treble, saying, “I start to think about the Treble if we are able to go to Istanbul [the host city of the Champions League final] with two titles in the pocket, then I will concede if we win one more title we do it. Look at United, it was once in a lifetime in the UK and the way they won the Camp Nou against Bayern Munich, I was there. It is so difficult to do it, the last two finals we have will be terribly complicated. I know United want to avoid it and Inter Milan is Inter Milan, so step by step.”
Guardiola has overseen a dominant period for Manchester City in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is focused on defeating City. He stated, “We will give everything, and when I say everything, that is everything. More than 100 percent, you can’t do. The fans can rely on that. We want to give that against City; we want to give the fans that. I understand, of course, the feelings from the fans about it. We will do everything to give them the second trophy – everything that I have, everything the team has, the staff have. We will give everything to get it done. We can do it because we’ve proved it. It’s not easy, though. They are a great team, but we also have a great team.”
