Benzema’s Remarks on Rodri’s Style Sparks Mixed Reactions Among Football Fans
Karim Benzema is facing criticism from fans following his comments about Rodri’s recent Ballon d’Or victory over Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The 2024 Ballon d’Or stirred controversy after Vinicius and the entire Real Madrid contingent skipped the ceremony, reportedly in protest after learning the Brazilian winger would not claim the prestigious award.
After the announcement, Vinicius took to social media, defiantly stating, “I’ll do it 10x if I have to. They’re not ready.”
Several players voiced support, including Toni Kroos, Richarlison, and Frank Ribery. Benzema, now with Al-Ittihad, also expressed sympathy, stating on El Chiringuito TV: “I spoke to Vini, he’s sad… it’s also normal. He deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.”
However, Benzema’s next comment raised eyebrows as he appeared to subtly question Rodri’s appeal, remarking, “I’ve nothing against Rodri, good player… but I’m on my sofa watching TV, and Rodri doesn’t do anything that makes you say: wow.”
This sparked backlash from fans who felt Benzema’s comments were dismissive. “I never said wow when watching Benzema score tap-ins,” wrote one user, while another noted, “Maybe he expected Rodri to play like Messi and Ronaldo when he’s actually a DM lol.”
Some fans defended Rodri’s consistency and impact on the game, with one adding, “That’s a you problem, Benzema, because I watch Rodri and say wow every day.”
