Federal Government Closes Eko Bridge for Eight Weeks of Essential Repairs

Asphalt Resurfacing Project to Improve Safety and Traffic Flow, Alternative Routes Announced

The Federal Government has announced an eight-week closure of the Eko Bridge and its connecting ramps for essential asphalt resurfacing work. The closure, which began on Friday, September 20, will continue through November 20, according to a statement by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos.

Kesha explained that the closure is necessary for the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out critical repairs aimed at improving road safety and enhancing the driving experience for motorists. The project involves milling the existing asphalt surface and laying new asphalt to address wear and tear on the bridge and its ramps.

“Due to the closure, there will be detours and alternate routes for drivers,” Kesha stated. Motorists traveling to Lagos Island from Funsho Williams Avenue are advised to use the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge.

The closure will affect different sections of the bridge at varying times, with some areas experiencing complete shutdowns and others partial closures. Kesha emphasized the importance of the project, noting that it will ensure a smoother and safer roadway for all users.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during this period.
