Lagos State Government Takes Stringent Action: Alaba International Market Shut Down

In a continued effort to address inadequate environmental sanitation, the Lagos State Government has enforced the closure of the renowned Alaba International Market. This move follows the recent shutdown of several markets across the state by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The announcement of the closure was made early on Monday by the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X handle (formerly Twitter). Wahab stated, “Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills, and gross environmental sanitation offences.”

This action underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that markets within the state adhere to stringent environmental standards. The closure of Alaba International Market aligns with a broader initiative aimed at fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for Lagos residents.
