Alleged threat follows critical review of Chief Priest’s Imo State restaurant
Popular Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has accused entertainment mogul Cubana Chief Priest of threatening his life following a negative review of Chief Priest’s restaurant in Imo State. The accusations surfaced on social media on Thursday, September 12, 2024, a day after Famakin shared his review.
Famakin, who visited the restaurant on September 11, initially praised the establishment’s ambiance but criticized the quality of the pastries, noting that they had been pre-made and microwaved. Chief Priest responded publicly, thanking the critic for his visit, stating, “Thank you for visiting, Foodie. Wishing you all the best!”
However, Famakin later claimed that the tone changed in private messages, accusing Chief Priest of threatening him in response to the review. To back up his claim, Famakin posted screenshots of their direct messages, in which Chief Priest reportedly wrote:
“Karma is real, you must pay for whatever you sow in life. I don’t fight lowlifes, I leave them to karma. The business you did your wicked review for is owned by a 6-year-old.”
Famakin, interpreting this as a threat, urged the public to hold Chief Priest accountable if anything happened to him while he remained in Imo State. In his caption accompanying the screenshots, Famakin stated:
“I know a threat when I see one. I guess it’s time to leave Imo State ASAP. If anything happens to me while I am here, well, you know who to hold. I love how he was polite in the comment section for the world to see, but it was a different tone in my DMs.”
