Douglas Luiz’s time at Juventus appears to be coming to an abrupt end after just one season, with reports confirming that he and his long-time girlfriend, Alisha Lehmann, have gone their separate ways.
The couple, who were one of football’s most high-profile pairs, moved together from Aston Villa to Juventus last summer. However, their experiences in Italy could not have been more different. While Lehmann flourished, helping Juventus Women secure the Serie A title, Luiz faced a nightmare season—plagued by injuries and poor form, managing only three league starts.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the strain of their contrasting fortunes took a toll on their relationship, with sources revealing they have “not been together for some time.” Speculation grew when Luiz was notably absent from Lehmann’s title-clinching match against Milan, a game that sealed Juventus Women’s sixth league triumph in eight years.
While Lehmann is settled and plans to honor the remaining two years of her contract, Luiz is reportedly eager to leave Turin. His €51.5 million move from Aston Villa—a deal that also involved multiple players—has been a major disappointment. Since January, he has played fewer than 150 minutes in Serie A, drawing frustration from fans and critics alike.
Earlier this month, the Brazilian midfielder fired back at his critics on Instagram, defending his commitment to the club. “I didn’t come here just to take pictures; nobody else did,” he wrote. “I came with a purpose. But why hasn’t a signing like me played two straight matches? You can tell the press I’m ‘not fit,’ but I did pre-season, played every match, and was ready.”
Luiz, who was one of the Premier League’s top defensive midfielders before his move, hinted at deeper issues behind his struggles. “These injuries weren’t normal. I’ve never been injury-prone,” he said. “There are reasons I won’t discuss, but I’ll keep fighting for this club, even when it’s hard.”
