In a shocking revelation, former Big Brother Naija contestant Angel Smith disclosed the distressing extent of online harassment she faced during her participation in the 2021 “Shine Ya Eye” season of the reality show. Angel, known for her candid discussions about mental health struggles, shared her traumatic experiences in a recent interview with media personality Hero Daniels.

During the interview, Angel expressed the toll that her openness about mental health took on her well-being. In an attempt to raise awareness and destigmatize mental health discussions, she found herself subjected to relentless online abuse, taking the form of disturbing obituary posters with her name.

Angel explained, “This season on Big Brother, I struggled to be vulnerable a lot because in ‘Shine Ya Eye’ 2021, I talked about my mental health and how much I struggled a lot, and they [trolls] started using it against me. I mean, there were all sorts of narratives that I’m a crazy person, I belong in a mental hospital…”

The online harassment reached deeply hurtful levels, with individuals spreading harmful narratives and even going to the extent of creating obituary posters for Angel. She recounted the disturbing tweet she came across in 2021, stating, “Very soon she would soon h**t herself,” which targeted her for openly discussing self-harm.
