Manchester City Boss Desperate to See Star Midfielder Return to Form

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has firmly dismissed speculation of a fallout with Kevin De Bruyne, calling the claims “absurd” as the Belgian midfielder continues his gradual return from injury.

The rumors, fueled by pundits including Micah Richards and Gary Neville, emerged amid City’s worst run in over a decade—seven matches without a win in all competitions. De Bruyne, recovering from a pelvic injury, has only made late substitute appearances in recent games, raising questions about his role in the squad.

Kevin De Bruyne

Speaking at a press conference ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, Guardiola addressed the speculation head-on.
“People say I have a problem with Kevin. Do you think I don’t want to play him? He’s the most talented player in the final third we’ve ever had. But he’s 33, he’s had injuries, and he needs time to get back to his best,” Guardiola said.

De Bruyne’s absence has been noticeable, particularly as City now sit fifth in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool. Guardiola defended his decision to ease the midfielder back into action, stressing the importance of his physical condition.
“Kevin has had significant injuries over the past two seasons. He needs to regain his rhythm step by step. I’m desperate for him to return to his peak form, but it’s a process,” he explained.

Contract Speculation Adds to Debate

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that De Bruyne is in the final year of his contract with City. While this has led to suggestions of unrest, Guardiola insists there is no underlying tension.
“I’d love to have the Kevin of a few years ago, but we have to accept where he is now. He’s desperate to help the team, and we are just as desperate to have him back,” Guardiola added.

Pundits Question the Situation

Sky Sports analysts Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have expressed concerns about the dynamic between De Bruyne and Guardiola, with Neville calling the situation “unusual and strange.” Carragher added, “Something isn’t right if De Bruyne isn’t starting when he’s fit. He’s been the league’s best player for years.”

Guardiola, however, dismissed these claims, urging patience with both De Bruyne and the team as they work through injuries to key players.
“This season has been tough with injuries across the squad. If we had everyone fit, we’d be at the top of the table. For now, we have to find solutions and keep pushing,” he said.

City will aim to end their winless streak against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, with Guardiola hinting that De Bruyne could start as he inches closer to full fitness.
