Manchester City star leads Salah and Casemiro in annual footballer tax payments, spotlighting the financial impact of top earners
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland contributed nearly £17 million in tax over the past year, placing him at the top of the Sunday Times Football Tax List.
The Norwegian forward, whose basic weekly salary is reported to be around £500,000, also earned an additional £10 million from image rights and bonuses. Haaland, 25, recently extended his contract with City until 2034, cementing his status as one of football’s highest earners.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah followed closely with a £14.5 million tax contribution, while Manchester United midfielder Casemiro—set to leave the club this summer—was next at £10.9 million.

Former Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling paid £9.8 million, just ahead of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk (£9.7 million). Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and City’s Bernardo Silva each contributed £9 million.
Both Haaland and Salah also earned places in the broader Sunday Times list of the UK’s top 100 taxpayers, ranking 72nd and 81st respectively.
Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has been instrumental in the club’s success, playing a key role in their historic Treble-winning 2022–23 campaign and another Premier League title the following season.
Though City ended last season without silverware after an FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, they remain in contention for four trophies this term—including a tight Premier League race with Arsenal—with Haaland central to their ambitions.
