I Don’t Like Being Called a Legend – Nollywood Star RMD Rejects the Title

Veteran Actor Says the Label Feels Like a “Scam,” Prefers to Leave It for Icons Like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie

Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has openly rejected being called a “legend,” describing the title as a “scam” that makes him feel pushed toward retirement.

The beloved actor shared his thoughts in a candid interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, a YouTube show hosted by Nigerian skit maker Bea U. RMD explained that he associates the term “legend” with industry giants like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie—figures he considers true icons—and doesn’t believe he belongs in that category yet.

“I think all those ‘legend’ things are a scam,” RMD said with a laugh. “I have my legends—Uncle Olu Jacobs, Uncle Pete Edochie—those are our ancestors, our legends. I was still watching Uncle Pete when he was saying ‘Ribena children are healthy children.’”

The actor argued that being labeled a legend feels like being relegated to the “neighborhood of retired people” or those nearing the end of their careers—a status he’s not ready to accept. “So no, I don’t subscribe to it,” he firmly stated.
