Inter Launch Second Offer for Chelsea Striker Romelu Lukaku as Transfer Pursuit Continues

Inter Milan remains determined to secure a cut-price deal for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, as the Serie A club has made a second offer for the Belgium international, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea had signed Lukaku from Inter for a record-breaking fee of €115 million in the summer of 2021. However, Lukaku’s performances over the past two seasons, one at Stamford Bridge and the other on loan at San Siro, have been underwhelming, causing his value to decline significantly. Romano reveals that Inter has put forward a mere €30 million offer for the player, despite Lukaku’s previous Expected Transfer Value (xTV) reaching as high as €141 million while he was with the Italian club. The decline in Lukaku’s value has been steep, with FootballTransfers currently valuing him at just over €40 million, still surpassing Inter’s offer. Chelsea’s eagerness to sell players this summer has led to several departures below their market value.

Romano further reports that Chelsea and Inter are scheduled to hold talks regarding the offer, with a decision to be made on Lukaku’s future.

Although there were previous reports of Juventus showing interest in the 30-year-old striker, who is under contract until 2026, it seems that these discussions have not progressed. Romano emphasizes that Lukaku has no intention of joining the Saudi Pro League, a destination that several high-profile players have moved to in search of lucrative contracts. Players such as Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have made moves to the emerging league, following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, Lukaku has made it clear that he has no desire to relocate to Saudi Arabia. Romano states that there is “no chance” the Chelsea striker will leave the Premier League club for a team outside of Europe. Lukaku remains committed to continuing his career at a top-level European club.
