German Manager Cites Energy Depletion as Reason for Stepping Down, Ending a Successful Era at Anfield
In a surprising turn of events, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season, expressing that he is “running out of energy.” The German manager, who has been at the helm of the club since 2015, made the announcement in a video posted on the official club website.
Despite being under contract until 2026 and having achieved significant success, including winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup, Klopp revealed that he had informed the owners of his decision back in November.
“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it,” Klopp stated in the video message.
The 56-year-old emphasized his deep love for the club, the city, the supporters, the team, and the staff but reiterated that he is convinced it is the right time to step down due to a depletion of energy. He clarified that there are no underlying health issues influencing his decision.
Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, and Vitor Matos are also set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, marking a significant change in the coaching staff.
While Liverpool remains at the Premier League summit and recently secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final, Klopp’s decision comes as a surprise to many. The German manager assured fans that the team is in good hands and expressed gratitude for the support he has received.
Liverpool announced that Klopp would address the Anfield faithful directly in a special conference at the AXA Training Centre to discuss his departure. Klopp’s era at Liverpool has been marked by historic achievements, and the news of his impending departure has left fans and the football community in anticipation of the manager’s insights into this significant decision.
