Reds Reportedly Target Ruben Amorim and Ousmane Diomande as Klopp’s Replacement Looms
Liverpool Football Club is intensifying its search for a new manager and potential player signings as the departure of Jurgen Klopp looms at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
Since Klopp announced his decision to depart Anfield in January, Liverpool has been linked with several managerial candidates, including Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ange Postecoglou. Now, according to reports from the Daily Mail, Liverpool has deployed scouts to monitor Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, with their manager Ruben Amorim emerging as a prime target for the soon-to-be-vacant managerial role at Anfield.
The scouting team has reportedly attended several of Sporting’s matches, notably their recent victory over Benfica in the cup last Thursday. Alongside evaluating Amorim’s managerial prowess, Liverpool scouts are also keeping a keen eye on Sporting’s talented defender, Ousmane Diomande, who could be a potential transfer target for the Reds.
Diomande, an Ivorian defender, joined Sporting Lisbon from Midtjylland in January 2023 and has impressed with his performances ever since. Sporting values the 23-year-old center-back at approximately £70 million, reflecting his importance to the Portuguese club.
Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan, speaking shortly after Klopp’s departure announcement, emphasized the club’s meticulous approach to selecting a new manager. Hogan stated that the decision-making process would involve careful analysis of data and due diligence, echoing the methodology that led to Klopp’s appointment.
Hogan reassured fans that while the managerial search continues, the club’s focus remains on maintaining performance on the pitch. He emphasized that any updates regarding managerial appointments would be communicated in due course, following a private and thorough evaluation process.
