Kanye West Attributes Past Antisemitic Comments to Alcohol
Kanye West, now known as Ye, has revealed that alcohol fueled his previous antisemitic comments, which sparked widespread controversy and significant business losses. In a newly surfaced 2022 interview with Candace Owens, Ye admitted he was drinking when he posted the incendiary tweets in October of that year.
“I definitely was drinking when I put up the death con tweet,” Ye told Owens at the 1:06:37 mark of the video. He specified, “You know whose, I wanna say alcohol I had inside me? Hennessy. Hennessy. It turns us gray. Literally, the demons [come in].”
When asked why he hadn’t previously disclosed his intoxication, Ye explained, “Because it keeps taking away the fact of what I was saying or what I was about to do.” He added that “sometimes the truth comes through,” but if people knew he was drinking, they would try to “discredit” him.
In October 2022, Ye tweeted, “I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE … You guys have toyed with me and tried to blackball anyone whoever opposes your agenda.” He also shared a screenshot of his text thread with Diddy, writing, “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”
The backlash from these statements led to Adidas ending their partnership with Ye and his Yeezy brand, and Gap ceasing to stock his products. Ye issued an apology in December 2023, stating on Instagram, “I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community. It was not my intention to hurt or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused. I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity.”
