Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan Also Interested as Walker Eyes European Move
Manchester City defender Kyle Walker appears poised to embark on a new chapter in his career after informing manager Pep Guardiola of his desire to leave the club. Walker, 34, has enjoyed a decorated spell at City since joining in 2017, but the right-back has now set his sights on a fresh challenge.
Guardiola Confirms Walker’s Intentions
Speaking at a press conference last week, Guardiola addressed Walker’s decision:
“Well, it’s not easy for me to say because he should say it, but he’s not here. Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad and end his career.”
While initial rumors suggested Walker might head to the Saudi Pro League, those claims have been debunked. Instead, the England international is set to remain in Europe, with reports indicating a strong preference for a short-term loan in January before a potential permanent transfer in the summer.
AC Milan Leads the Chase
Among the clubs vying for Walker’s signature, AC Milan is emerging as the favorite. TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey reports that Milan is keen to bolster its defensive options, placing Walker high on its list of targets. Other top European sides, including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan, have also expressed interest.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo notes that Real Madrid could be an appealing destination for Walker. The club is actively searching for reinforcements at right-back due to Dani Carvajal’s ongoing injury struggles, with Trent Alexander-Arnold also on their radar.
Walker’s Reduced Role at Manchester City
Walker’s decision to seek a move comes amid a diminished role at Manchester City this season. Despite being a mainstay in the previous campaign with 30 league starts, he has made just eight Premier League starts and one Champions League appearance this season.
City is reportedly open to a six-month loan deal in January, which would provide Walker with the opportunity to secure consistent playing time before a likely permanent transfer.
A Legacy of Success at City
Since joining Manchester City, Walker has been a crucial part of Guardiola’s squad, helping the team secure numerous trophies, including multiple Premier League titles. As he approaches the twilight of his career, the England international is looking for a club that will allow him to continue competing at the highest level while adding a new chapter to his storied career.
With interest from several European heavyweights, Walker’s next move promises to be closely watched by football fans worldwide.
