Barcelona extends lead in La Liga after ending Real Madrid’s 42-game unbeaten streak
Barcelona claimed a commanding 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice in three minutes in the second half. Goals from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha further solidified Barcelona’s win, exposing Real Madrid’s defense as they pressed forward in a bid to equalize.
Real Madrid, who entered the match riding a 42-game unbeaten streak in La Liga, were on the verge of matching Barcelona’s all-time record. However, their hopes of extending the streak were dashed in the second half, despite threatening moments before halftime. Kylian Mbappé had several close attempts, but his offside positioning nullified six plays, including one potential goal.
Lewandowski, 36, demonstrated his experience as he timed his run to beat the offside trap and open the scoring. He added a second with a looping header just minutes later.
Although he missed two subsequent chances to seal the match, Barcelona continued their offensive push, with Yamal and Raphinha taking advantage of gaps in Madrid’s defense to close out the game.
With this win, Barcelona now sits six points clear at the top of La Liga, adding to their momentum in a highly competitive season.
