Man Utd Plans Five-Window Strategy to Support Erik ten Hag

Club Looks to Strengthen Squad After Challenging Season

Manchester United is set to back manager Erik ten Hag with a long-term transfer strategy, aiming to bolster the squad over the next five transfer windows, according to former CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

After a tough Premier League season, where United finished eighth and exited the Champions League early, there was significant pressure on Ten Hag. However, an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City helped secure his position.

Despite rumors of the club considering other managerial candidates, the lack of available top-tier managers worked in Ten Hag’s favor. Now, United is planning to extend his contract, with the support of INEOS, who are formulating a comprehensive five-window plan.

Jacobs explained in his GiveMeSport column, “Ratcliffe is eager to make an impact in his first transfer window in charge of the sporting side. He understands that complete overhaul isn’t possible in just one summer due to financial constraints. Manchester United is working on a five-window plan, emphasizing the need for patience. However, the upcoming months are critical as INEOS wants to back Ten Hag, making it easier for him to accept some limitations in recruitment control.”

Recent reports suggest that United is looking to intercept AC Milan’s deal to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. Jacobs mentioned, “Manchester United has made contact with Joshua Zirkzee, a target since February. The Bologna striker has a similar profile to Olivier Giroud and a €40m release clause. AC Milan is committed to paying it, but high agent commissions have been an obstacle, opening the door for a potential Old Trafford hijack.”

If the Zirkzee deal falls through, United has other targets, including Evan Ferguson, Ivan Toney, Jonathan David, and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy. Additionally, Ten Hag aims to strengthen the left-back position, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez being a key target, valued at around £35m.

Moreover, United is considering a midfielder replacement if Casemiro leaves for Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian midfielder, contracted until 2026, is still undecided about the move, which could fetch between €30m and €35m plus add-ons from interested Saudi clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr.
