Pep Guardiola Takes Responsibility for City’s Winless Streak and Pledges to Change the Dynamic
In a candid admission, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has acknowledged the current struggles his team is facing, emphasizing that it is his responsibility to reverse their fortunes on the field.
The reigning champions suffered a setback on Wednesday night, losing 1-0 against Aston Villa, which extended their winless streak in the league to four games. The defeat resulted in City dropping to fourth place in the table, with Leon Bailly’s second-half strike securing all three points for Unai Emery’s dominant Villa side.

Guardiola, looking ahead to upcoming clashes against Luton Town and Crystal Palace, stressed the urgent need for improvement. “It’s my duty, my job to find a way to come back because over many years together we were able to find a way to play games – sometimes playing good, sometimes not – but always we found a way to do it, and now we are struggling,” explained Guardiola. “We have to change the dynamic, winning as soon as possible against Luton and Crystal Palace to continue to be there. I have to think about it. I have to sleep, to see the games, to reflect, and try to do it.”
Adding to City’s woes was the fact that their final shot in the Villa game came in the 11th minute, coupled with facing an astonishing 22 shots – the most any side has produced against a Guardiola-managed team in a league match throughout his entire career.
“The better team won,” conceded Guardiola. “Aston Villa were better than us. It was really difficult because they are really physical and able to control many aspects. That is the reason why they are up there, playing good football, and we could not do it.” Guardiola’s acknowledgment of the challenges signals a period of reflection and strategic planning as he aims to guide Manchester City back to their winning ways.
