New manager Ruben Amorim’s appointment heightens speculation as Gyokeres remains cautious about United’s offer
Manchester United are expected to make a serious summer bid for Viktor Gyokeres, with Portuguese newspaper Record reporting that the move is “guaranteed” under incoming manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim, who played a significant role in shaping Gyokeres’ rise to international stardom at Sporting CP, is expected to push for United to acquire the Swedish striker at the end of the season. Despite this, any transfer would likely not happen until after the January window.
Gyokeres, who has quickly become one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers, may need convincing before he considers a move to Old Trafford. United’s recent struggles and instability reportedly make the club a less attractive option, especially as interest from other major teams — including Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona — continues to grow.
The 25-year-old forward has made a remarkable start to the 2024-25 season, scoring 16 goals in just 15 games across competitions. This success follows his breakout season last year, during which he scored an impressive 43 goals in 50 matches for Sporting CP, including 29 goals in the Primeira Liga, securing the title of top scorer.
United’s interest is compounded by Gyokeres’ proven track record and the €100 million release clause in his Sporting contract, a figure that many top clubs are prepared to meet. Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in the summer of 2023 for €20 million plus bonuses, and his performances have since more than justified the investment.
As the season progresses, Gyokeres’ impressive form and prolific goal-scoring abilities only increase his appeal. United may face stiff competition for his signature, and it remains to be seen if Amorim’s influence will be enough to sway the talented striker toward Manchester.
