Red Devils face competition from three Premier League rivals, but Toffees dig in with contract talks amid £70m valuation
Manchester United remain keen on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but the Toffees are battling hard to keep their prized asset amid interest from four top-flight clubs.
Despite already securing Wolves’ Matheus Cunha (£62.5m) and closing in on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (£65m), new United boss Rúben Amorim is also pushing for defensive reinforcements. The Red Devils saw a £50m bid rejected for Branthwaite earlier this summer, with Everton holding firm on their £70m valuation—a stance that hasn’t deterred Chelsea, Tottenham, or Liverpool, who are all monitoring the situation.
Everton “Rolling Up Their Sleeves”
Sources close to the club say Everton are in active talks with Branthwaite over a new deal, with the 22-year-old showing no signs of agitating for a move.
“Everton are really rolling up their sleeves to keep him,” one insider told CaughtOffside. “He was immense last season alongside James Tarkowski, and David Moyes sees him as vital for their future at the new stadium.”
Chelsea, however, could emerge as the biggest threat. New boss Enzo Maresca has prioritised a centre-back signing, and while Branthwaite wasn’t initially on a shortlist including Jorrel Hato, Ousmane Diomande, Murillo, and Piero Hincapie, his situation could change if contract talks stall.
United’s Goalkeeper Search Heats Up
Meanwhile, United are also stepping up their hunt for a new No. 1. After enquiries for Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, Portuguese outlet A Bola reports Amorim has personally requested Porto’s Diogo Costa.
The 25-year-old, who has a £64m release clause, is ready for a fresh challenge after feeling he’s achieved all he can in Portugal. With Manchester City also lurking—should Ederson move to Saudi Arabia—Porto may lower their demands to around £51m to facilitate a deal.
For now, all eyes remain on Branthwaite. Will Everton’s resolve hold, or will a big-money bid tempt them into a sale? The battle for his signature is far from over.
