Club Shifts Focus Amid Transfer Rumors and Player Negotiations
Manchester United may need to look beyond Thomas Tuchel for a replacement for Erik ten Hag, as the German manager has reportedly declined the opportunity to take over at Old Trafford. According to The Sun, Tuchel, who recently left Bayern Munich, plans to take a break from football.
Despite holding two meetings with United’s owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Tuchel has expressed his need for time away from management. This development leaves Manchester United’s managerial situation uncertain, especially as Ten Hag’s future remains in question. Tuchel was seen as the top candidate to address the club’s recent struggles, including getting the best out of players like Jadon Sancho.
In more positive news for United fans, the club is reportedly close to signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The 21-year-old’s exclusion from England’s Euro 2024 squad is expected to expedite the transfer process. The Mirror suggests that United is keen to finalize the deal this month.
Branthwaite, who had a standout season at Everton after a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, is a top defensive target for United. Despite the managerial uncertainty, the club is pushing ahead with the signing. The Liverpool Echo reports that United is “expecting” to secure the transfer, though Everton will only part with Branthwaite for a substantial offer.
With Branthwaite no longer involved with England’s national team, negotiations are set to accelerate, as the Football Association prohibits players from engaging in transfer talks while on international duty. United aims to bolster their defense and is determined to complete the deal promptly.
