LAS VEGAS – Manchester United faced a disappointing outcome in their friendly match against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday night, marking their second consecutive defeat during their tour in the United States. Despite taking an early lead in the 24th minute through a spectacular strike from Diogo Dalot, United was unable to maintain their advantage against a determined Dortmund side.
Erik ten Hag’s team seemed poised to enter the interval with the lead, but Dortmund’s Donyell Malen had other plans. He swiftly equalized the scoreline in the 43rd minute with a close-range finish, and just a minute later, he capitalized on a mistake from Victor Lindelof to put Dortmund ahead.
United fought back, with Antony delivering an equalizer with a low strike seven minutes into the second half. However, it was Dortmund who ultimately clinched the victory. In the 71st minute, Youssoufa Moukoko netted the winning goal, skillfully concluding a swift counter-attack after Aaron Wan-Bissaka lost possession.
Following the match, Erik ten Hag expressed his disappointment with the performance, emphasizing that Manchester United must be ruthless and aim for wins, given the expectations associated with the club. While he acknowledged some positive aspects of the tour, the manager was critical of the goals conceded, labeling them as “really poor defending” and “poor in building up.”
Manchester United’s preparations for the upcoming season continue, and they are set to host French team Lyon at Old Trafford on Saturday, August 5, followed by a game against Athletic Bilbao on August 6. Their Premier League campaign kicks off on August 14 at Old Trafford, with a fixture against Wolves.
Fans are eagerly awaiting improved performances from Manchester United as they aim to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the competitive season. The defeats in the United States have served as a reminder that the team must remain focused and disciplined to meet the high expectations set by both their supporters and the football world.
