The football transfer scene is buzzing with revelations from renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano regarding Manchester United’s plans after the imminent departure of their captain Harry Maguire to West Ham. The prolonged speculation surrounding Maguire’s future appears to be reaching its conclusion, as Manchester United and West Ham have reportedly reached an agreement in principle for a £30 million transfer deal. It’s suggested that personal terms are unlikely to pose a stumbling block.
With the Maguire saga nearing its end, Manchester United is poised to embark on a quest for a new center-back – a move that has been the subject of ongoing rumors. Erik ten Hag, the manager at the helm, is believed to be keen on strengthening the squad’s defensive options, especially considering the need for suitable cover in case Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez are unavailable.
The names of the prospective targets have now come to light, shedding light on the club’s strategic approach. Erik ten Hag, who has a background as a former Bayern Munich coach, seems to have a soft spot for the Bundesliga, as all three potential targets have connections to the German top division. Ten Hag recently expressed his belief that the Bundesliga serves as a solid platform for players to transition to the Premier League.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag has a keen interest in three players: former Barcelona and Schalke talent Jean-Clair Todibo, Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. It’s been indicated that discussions between Todibo and his current club Nice have already taken place. Benjamin Pavard, a long-standing target for Ten Hag, reportedly seeks an exit from Bayern Munich and is not inclined to renew his expiring contract. Although Pavard was previously rumored to prefer a move to Southern Europe, Romano suggests that he’s open to the idea of joining Manchester United.
Edmond Tapsoba, who has made a strong impression since joining Leverkusen, was also on Tottenham’s radar before they secured Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. The potential acquisitions of all three players are likely to command significant financial investment from Manchester United.
