Mason Greenwood May Get An England Under 21 International Call Up

Mason Greenwood, the talented forward of Manchester United, might have a shot at international football redemption through an unexpected avenue, as per a recent report.

The beleaguered young player is set to depart from the ranks of the Red Devils, having been sidelined from the club since his arrest in January 2022. Manchester United has finally taken the decisive step, making it unequivocally clear that the 21-year-old’s future lies away from Old Trafford. While the decision has garnered approval from various quarters, including club legend Gary Neville, it hasn’t been without criticisms directed at the handling of the situation. It took a widespread public outcry to persuade the upper echelons of Man Utd management that Greenwood should not be reintegrated into the fold. Neville remarked, “They’ve finally got there. It was clear from day one, for me and anybody who saw the evidence that was initially released, that he wouldn’t play for Manchester United again.”

“I would say that the process in getting there has been pretty horrible. When you have significant and difficult situations like this, it requires authoritative leadership that comes from the very top, and Manchester United don’t have that,” Neville added.

In light of Manchester United’s announcement that they are parting ways with Greenwood, speculations surrounding his next destination have surged. While Steven Gerrard dismissed reports linking the forward to his club Al-Ettifaq as ‘fake news’ on Instagram, Roma is reported to have distanced itself from pursuing an offer due to Jose Mourinho’s reluctance to associate with Greenwood.

Although several Championship clubs displayed interest, they ultimately chose not to proceed with making an approach. The prevailing anticipation is that Greenwood’s club career will continue overseas, with Italy and Turkey emerging as likely destinations, as indicated by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

On the international stage, it might appear unlikely for the 21-year-old to represent England again, but the Daily Mail’s report suggests that Jamaica could extend an unexpected second chance. Greenwood is eligible to play for Jamaica, and there seems to be a level of interest from the Jamaican Football Association (FA). Despite having already participated in a competitive fixture for England, Greenwood could potentially make a switch to the Reggae Boyz. However, permitting Greenwood to don Jamaican colors could potentially dent the reputation of an FA that has been under scrutiny for years, particularly in relation to its treatment of the women’s national team.
