Mikel Arteta Quashes Barcelona Rumors with Firm Response, Easing Arsenal Fans’ Concerns

Arsenal Manager Dismisses Speculation of Shock Exit to Camp Nou, Labels Reports “Totally Fake News”

In the wake of recent reports linking Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta with a sensational move to Barcelona, the Spanish tactician has emphatically shut down the rumors, providing a response that is sure to delight Arsenal fans.

Arteta has emerged as one of the candidates on Barcelona’s shortlist to replace Xavi, who announced his departure as manager at the end of the season. Despite being a target for the La Liga giants since the dismissal of Ronald Koeman in October 2021, Arteta has affirmed his commitment to Arsenal.

Reports from Spain on Sunday suggested that Arteta is contemplating a shock exit in June, allegedly confiding in close friends about his potential departure. However, Arteta, who has a history with Barcelona from his youth career, addressed the speculation during his pre-match press conference, calling it “totally fake news.”

“I could not believe it. I don’t know where it’s coming from. I think we have to be very careful when you talk about personal things, especially. I’m in the right place,” said Arteta, firmly dismissing the rumors.

When questioned about his contract and the reported frustration with the Barcelona links, Arteta highlighted his strong relationship with the Arsenal board. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “One is a consequence of the other. First of all, I’m really cautious when I talk publicly about my personal things. Secondly, because I don’t think someone deserves to hear news like that. I’ve always said completely the opposite. That’s why I feel upset.”

Arteta, who took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, succeeding Unai Emery, is contracted until 2025. With 211 matches overseen, 121 wins, and an FA Cup triumph in the 2019/20 season, Arteta has been a central figure in Arsenal’s recent campaigns.
