Liverpool Star’s Future Remains Unclear as Contract Talks Loom
Mohamed Salah’s agent, Ramy Abass Issa, has broken his silence on speculation surrounding the Liverpool winger’s future, as Salah approaches the final year of his contract at Anfield. Alongside key players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1 if a new deal is not secured.
The rumors surrounding Salah’s future intensified following Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United, where the player remarked that he was in his “last year” at the club. While some interpreted the comment as confirmation that Salah was planning to leave, others suggested it had been taken out of context, simply referring to the fact that his contract is nearing its end.
Issa addressed the ongoing speculation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), dismissing the reports as baseless. “FYI – all those ‘journalists’ who imply having ‘inside information’ about Mohamed’s future are making claims/posts based on absolutely nothing. Just click-whoring,” Issa wrote. He added that no one apart from Salah and his agent truly knows what the player’s intentions are.
Despite the uncertainty, some reports suggest Salah’s preference is to remain at Anfield. Sources like Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy have indicated Salah is keen to stay, and the Liverpool Echo has outlined three key reasons why the Egyptian star might seek to extend his contract: his desire to break records, his settled life in Liverpool, and his strong connection to the club.
However, not all analysts are convinced. Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has suggested Salah may already have plans to move to Saudi Arabia, speculating that the player’s comments after the United match hinted at a prearranged exit. Souness remarked, “I think he’s made his mind up… his wife might want to go to Saudi Arabia. These are things we can’t answer.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool is expected to hold talks with Salah’s representatives soon, as the club hopes to finalize a deal before the January transfer window. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that negotiations between Salah’s camp and Liverpool are on the horizon.
As the situation unfolds, the uncertainty also extends to other high-profile Liverpool players nearing the end of their contracts. Virgil van Dijk has hinted at his desire to stay, while backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has expressed frustration over limited playing time, signaling a possible exit.
With Salah still performing at a high level, having scored three goals under new manager Arne Slot this season, Liverpool faces a critical decision: whether to offer the 32-year-old winger another lucrative contract or prepare for a potential departure.
