In a candid and introspective social media post, actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has revealed that her unsuccessful music career was sabotaged by the negative influence of her closest friends.
The film star shared her thoughts this past Friday while posting a video of herself singing the worship song ‘God is Good’ on Instagram. Using the moment to look back, the 40-year-old traced her musical journey back to 2013, when she released tracks like ‘Hi’, ‘Crazically Fit’, and ‘Jeje’, and collaborated with well-known artists such as Solid Star and Terry G.
Dikeh explained that her failed music career now stands as a stark reminder of a period when she was surrounded by poor influences.
“Watching this video reminds me of the time I had the worst kind of friends who pushed me to release an album,” she wrote.
She humorously lamented that her actual singing talent didn’t live up to the grand ambitions her friends encouraged. With a touch of comic exaggeration, she claimed that if she had the right vocal ability, her fame would have eclipsed that of music giants.
“If I could sing ehn, una for don Dey sick of me…. Like you don’t even understand,” she joked. “Who is Tiwa? Who is Whitney, who is Cece Winans?”
Ending her post on a more serious note, Dikeh issued a clear warning to the friends from her past and a piece of advice to her followers. She directly addressed those who encouraged her, writing, “Sneeze/sniper and co your bedroom is been reserved in hell.”
