Naira Marley Vows to Return to Nigeria for Police Investigations into Mohbad’s Death

Popular Nigerian singer Naira Marley has declared his intention to return to Nigeria to cooperate with ongoing police investigations concerning the tragic death of Mohbad, his former protege.

Naira Marley, who has been out of the country since August 31, 2023, is determined to clear his name from any assumptions or suspicions regarding his involvement in the demise of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In a statement shared on his official Instagram page on the evening of September 26, 2023, the singer addressed the public’s concerns and suspicions that have emerged in the wake of Mohbad’s passing. He emphatically asserted that he is not a fugitive and expressed his intention to provide his account of the events upon his return to Nigeria.

Marley’s statement read:

“I have been out of the country since the 31st of August 2023, and I’m here to return in light of the police investigation. I am making arrangements to return to the country to assist the investigation and give my version of events. I am fully cooperating with the police team, and I certainly have no reason to be a fugitive when I have no hand in his death.”

The singer further stated his commitment to the truth and disclosed that he is working closely with the police to help solve the case. He also assured that he possesses evidence that will vindicate his reputation.

“My lawyers are already in touch with the police and government agencies and will support you in every way necessary. Without a doubt, I will honour his memory, and I promise to do right by him and his family. I am dedicated to proving my innocence and I am cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with sufficient evidence,” he added.

Naira Marley clarified that he never physically confronted or tormented Mohbad, neither before nor after the artist joined his record label. He emphasized that, during Mohbad’s lifetime, he was never subjected to bullying or other forms of harm.

The late Mohbad was a member of Naira Marley’s record label until September 2022. Following his tragic passing on September 12, 2023, rumors circulated that Naira Marley, along with his friend Sammy Larry and his label, were responsible for harassment and his untimely death. Marley now distances himself from these allegations and is determined to cooperate with authorities to ascertain the facts surrounding Mohbad’s tragic demise.
