Man City’s FFP Hearing Concludes, Verdict Expected by March
Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the club’s ongoing Financial Fair Play (FFP) case, suggesting a verdict could be announced between February and March next year.
The Premier League charged City with over 100 alleged FFP breaches earlier this year, following a four-year investigation into their financial activities from 2009 to 2018. City, who maintain their innocence, have faced scrutiny regarding compliance with league rules designed to ensure financial sustainability.
Potential Consequences
If found guilty, Manchester City could face severe penalties, ranging from points deductions to significant fines, transfer bans, expulsion from the Premier League, or even retroactive stripping of titles. While the case concluded earlier this month with final arguments from legal representatives, the timeline for a decision remains uncertain.
Guardiola, speaking ahead of City’s upcoming match against Aston Villa, acknowledged the anticipation surrounding the verdict. “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Guardiola said. “In February, March, maybe there will be the sentence.”
On-Court Struggles and Guardiola’s Rallying Cry
City’s recent form has added to their challenges, winning only one of their last 11 matches across all competitions. Despite this, Guardiola remains optimistic, urging his team to persevere. “If you fall down six times, you have to stand up seven,” he said. “Sooner or later, it will turn around.”
The manager highlighted Erling Haaland’s importance to the team but noted that a collective improvement is needed. “Erling is irreplaceable, but it’s not just about one player,” he explained. “We have to create more chances and spaces for him to thrive.”
Manchester City faces a crucial period both on and off the pitch. As the FFP case nears its conclusion, Guardiola will hope his squad can regain their form and focus on challenging for honors in the second half of the season.
