PSG’s Double Coup Set to Unlock Major Transfers for Manchester United and Chelsea

Joao Neves and Victor Osimhen on Verge of Joining PSG

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is accelerating a monumental double signing that could pave the way for Manchester United and Chelsea to complete major transfers of their own, according to reports.

Following Kylian Mbappe’s free agency move to Real Madrid, PSG is determined to demonstrate they are not a one-man team. The French giants have two significant signings in the pipeline, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano providing updates on both fronts.

Firstly, PSG has received the green light from Benfica and Portugal midfielder Joao Neves. Romano announced on X: “Joao Neves has already said yes to Paris Saint-Germain weeks ago. The project presented by [sporting director Luis] Campos was approved, and the presence of [manager] Luis Enrique is also a key factor. Negotiations between PSG and Benfica are still ongoing; PSG are pushing but no agreement yet.”

Benfica has insisted they will not sell Neves for less than his €120 million release clause. However, PSG believes a deal can be struck for a more reasonable sum and have already tabled a bid worth €70 million plus add-ons, with an improved offer reportedly in the works.

Additionally, PSG hopes the addition of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will compensate for the goals lost with Mbappe’s departure. Like Neves, Osimhen is protected by a release clause, roughly €120 million. Despite this, Napoli is reportedly warming to the idea of a sale below this figure.

Romano confirmed on X that Osimhen has agreed to join PSG, stating, “Paris Saint-Germain have Osimhen’s green light to project/move, work in progress on contract details. Negotiations between PSG and Napoli are now key part of the story, not easy. If Osimhen leaves, Napoli will go for Lukaku.”

Napoli’s primary target to replace Osimhen is Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea is eager to offload their third most expensive signing and will accept bids around £37 million (€44 million). Napoli, with the funds from Osimhen’s potential sale, would easily afford Lukaku and have additional resources to reinvest.

Furthermore, Lukaku is keen on reuniting with manager Antonio Conte in Naples, giving Napoli priority over other suitors. Lukaku and Conte previously won the 2020/21 Serie A title at Inter Milan.

Manchester United also stands to benefit from PSG’s ambitious moves. Joao Neves is being eyed as a replacement for Manuel Ugarte, whom United hopes to pair with Kobbie Mainoo next season. Ugarte, 23, is open to joining the Red Devils despite their lack of Champions League football.

Sky Sports confirmed ongoing dialogue between Manchester United and PSG regarding Ugarte’s transfer to Old Trafford. PSG hopes to collect €60 million (£51 million) from the sale, the same price they paid to sign Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon last year. However, United aims to secure a deal for a fee in the £38 million to £45 million range.
