The Spanish giants are reportedly “amazed” by the 17-year-old wonderkid, setting the stage for a potential transfer tug-of-war next summer.
Real Madrid is keeping a close watch on Liverpool’s rising star Rio Ngumoha, with reports from Spain indicating the European champions are preparing for a potential move next summer.
The 17-year-old forward has quickly become one of the most exciting young talents in English football. His stock skyrocketed in late August when he came off the bench to score a last-minute winner against Newcastle United, becoming Liverpool’s youngest ever Premier League goalscorer just days before his seventeenth birthday.
After a fantastic pre-season with Liverpool’s senior squad, Ngumoha’s impressive development has been rewarded by manager Arne Slot, who included him in the Champions League squad ahead of established players like Federico Chiesa. The teenager is expected to receive several first-team opportunities throughout the season.
Despite his growing importance to Liverpool, the club may face a fight to hold onto their prodigy. Spanish publication Defensa Central reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is personally “amazed” by Ngumoha’s talent and has identified him as a key target.
Liverpool are moving to secure his future, with the youngster set to sign his first professional contract at the club in the coming weeks. The deal is expected to tie him to Anfield until 2028, meaning any suitor, including Real Madrid, would have to pay a significant transfer fee.
The situation is further complicated by an ongoing dispute with Ngumoha’s former club, Chelsea. The two clubs remain at war over a compensation fee for the academy starlet, who left west London to join Liverpool in 2024. A Premier League panel is yet to announce a final resolution to the case.
