Real Madrid is gearing up to offer Kylian Mbappe an iconic shirt number should the French forward decide to join the Spanish giants.
Mbappe’s impending departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, following intense discussions with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has triggered a flurry of interest from top clubs across Europe.
Among the contenders vying for his signature, Real Madrid stands out as a frontrunner, closely monitoring Mbappe’s situation for years.
Despite competition from other elite European clubs like Liverpool and reported interest from Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta confirming the Gunners’ intent and suggesting a controversial swap deal with PSG, all indications suggest Spain as Mbappe’s likely destination, with Real poised to secure the 25-year-old on a highly anticipated free transfer.
Reports suggest that part of the deal could involve Mbappe compensating PSG with a portion of his signing-on fee.
In preparation for Mbappe’s potential arrival, Real Madrid has already earmarked a shirt number for the coveted forward ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mbappe is slated to inherit the prestigious No.10 jersey, currently worn by the legendary Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, who is expected to depart the Bernabeu this summer upon the expiration of his contract.
Should Mbappe don the No.10 shirt for Real Madrid, he will join a distinguished lineage of football luminaries who have previously worn the number for the club. Past holders include Luis Figo, Mesut Ozil, Clarence Seedorf, James Rodriguez, and Wesley Sneijder, among others.
Mbappe, who initially sported the No.29 shirt upon his arrival at PSG in 2017 before transitioning to the No.7 jersey, has a rich history with shirt numbers. Notably, he wears the No.10 shirt for the French national team, clinching the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
