A confrontation over a livestream camera leaves the former winner feeling “embarrassed” and questioning double standards.
Tensions flared outside a celebrity birthday party on Tuesday when reality TV star Phyna (Josephina Otabor) was refused entry for refusing to stop a live broadcast for her fans.
The incident occurred at the celebration for 2025 Big Brother Naija winner Imisi, where security officials turned Phyna away at the venue’s entrance. The point of contention was her phone camera, which she was using to livestream her arrival.
In a video captured at the scene, a visibly upset and embarrassed Phyna questioned why she was being singled out. She explained that organizers demanded she put her camera away before entering, a rule she felt was unfairly applied.
“I came here to support Imisi, not to cause any problem,” Phyna said in the clip. “You people are embarrassing me for no reason. Why is it only me you are stopping?”
Security personnel maintained that recording was prohibited inside the event. However, Phyna argued this was a double standard, suggesting other high-profile content creators would not have faced the same restriction.
“If na Speed or Peller come here, you go tell them to drop camera?” she challenged, referencing fellow popular streamers.
The standoff highlights the clash between celebrity access, event privacy, and the evolving norms of live social media coverage in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. While Phyna left feeling humiliated and questioning the fairness of the rules, the incident underscores the growing pains of managing digital visibility at exclusive gatherings.
