Nigerian Artist Clarifies Symbolism in His Work, Dismissing Allegations as “Crazy”
Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has finally spoken out against persistent rumors labeling him as a devil worshiper. The allegations have stemmed from his use of bat imagery and other dark symbols in his artwork over the past few years.
In a candid interview on the ‘Kids Take Over’ podcast, the ‘Calm Down’ singer addressed what he described as the most outrageous rumor he has faced. “They say I worship the devil,” Rema laughed, dismissing the claims. “It’s crazy. I didn’t respond to it because it is not important. It’s a waste of time.”
Rema explained that the symbols he incorporates into his music and visuals are inspired by his Edo heritage, not by any sinister beliefs. He emphasized that his artistic choices reflect his cultural background and creative vision rather than any connection to the occult.
During the podcast, Rema also touched on his collaboration with Canadian superstar Drake in 2020 for the leaked track “Mention Me,” offering fans a glimpse into his artistic journey and creative process.
