Sean “Diddy” Combs to Stand Trial for Racketeering and Sex Trafficking in May 2025

The music mogul faces serious charges with a trial date set, as both sides prepare for a lengthy legal battle.

Musician and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, who faces charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, is set to go on trial in May 2025. A federal judge in New York scheduled the trial for May 5, 2025, during a court hearing on Thursday.

Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, appeared in the courtroom wearing a jail-issued tan shirt and khaki pants, with shackles around his ankles. He smiled and waved to his family members seated in the courtroom as he was led in by U.S. Marshals.

Prosecutor Emily Johnson indicated that the trial could last three weeks but noted that additional charges or defendants might extend the proceedings. Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, stated that the defense case would likely take one week.

The presiding judge, Arun Subramanian, also announced that he would issue an order preventing both sides from discussing secret grand jury material and non-public evidence. This move comes after Combs’ legal team accused the government of leaking a video to CNN showing Combs physically abusing his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. However, prosecutors denied possession of the video prior to its release, and the court is set to decide whether the footage will be admissible in trial.

Combs’ next court appearance is scheduled for December 18, 2024. He remains in federal custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting trial.
