Sergio Agüero Files €3 Million Claim Against FC Barcelona for Contract Compensation

Former Striker Seeks Compensation for Abrupt Retirement Due to Heart Condition

In a significant development, FC Barcelona’s annual financial report for the 2023-24 fiscal year reveals that former Argentine striker Sergio Agüero has filed a conciliation notice, claiming €3 million from the club. Agüero, who was forced to retire in 2021 due to a heart condition, alleges that Barcelona owes him compensation for the early termination of his contract following his medical retirement.

The claim centers around the compensation Agüero believes he is entitled to under the terms of his agreement with the club. A conciliation meeting took place on June 21, 2024, but the issue remains unresolved. Barcelona noted in its financial report that the case is pending in a Social Court, though no specific court has been assigned to handle the matter.

This legal dispute adds to Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges. The club is also facing a €10 million lawsuit from Scores Sports Management, which claims unpaid fees for brokering Ousmane Dembele’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023. Barcelona contends that half of the transfer’s €50 million buyout clause went to Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, and they are mounting a defense.

Additionally, Barcelona recently settled a €6.9 million claim with former player Gabriel Milito, related to unfair dismissal dating back to 2011. The settlement was reached in July 2024, just before the release of the financial report.

As these legal matters unfold, Barcelona continues to navigate a challenging financial landscape while addressing compensation claims from both former players and management groups.
