Controversial singer faces NAPTIP investigation after shocking Instagram Live confession about minor
Nigeria’s National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has issued a stern summons to controversial musician Speed Darlington following disturbing allegations that surfaced during a live social media broadcast. The agency demands the artist, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, appear at its Abuja headquarters by 9 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, for questioning.
The urgent summons comes after a viral Instagram Live session where the singer allegedly confessed to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. NAPTIP officials described the claims as “deeply concerning” in their May 28th correspondence, warning that such actions would constitute serious violations under multiple Nigerian laws.
Legal Reckoning Looms
According to the official letter obtained by journalists, the agency believes Speed Darlington’s statements may breach:
- The Trafficking in Persons Act (2015)
- The Cybercrime Act (2015)
“These are not allegations we can ignore,” a NAPTIP representative told press anonymously. “When public figures make such shocking claims, especially involving minors, we have a duty to investigate thoroughly.”

Social Media Storm
The controversy has ignited fierce debates across Nigerian social media, with many users expressing outrage while others question the context of the singer’s statements. Known for his provocative online persona, Speed Darlington has yet to make any public statement about the summons.
Legal experts suggest the case could become a landmark test of Nigeria’s cybercrime and child protection laws. “This isn’t just about one viral moment,” noted human rights lawyer Amina Mohammed. “It’s about how we handle abuse allegations in the digital age, especially when they involve vulnerable minors.”
As Friday’s deadline approaches, all eyes remain on whether the controversial artist will comply with the summons – and what consequences may follow if NAPTIP’s investigation substantiates the alarming claims.
