In a candid conversation with fans, the Grammy-winning star opens up about leaving her 9-5 job and embracing a future she never imagined.
In a heartfelt moment with fans, global superstar Tems revealed that her current success has surpassed even her own dreams. The Grammy-winning singer shared the reflection during a lively Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, humbly acknowledging the extraordinary path her life has taken since leaving a corporate desk job.
When asked by a fan if she had achieved all her pre-stardom dreams, Tems responded with characteristic grace: “I’m looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store and honestly I’ve achieved beyond my dreams from when I had a 9-5.” The sincere reply quickly resonated with thousands, spotlighting her remarkable journey from office life to international fame.
Born Temilade Openiyi, the singer made the leap in 2018, leaving her role as a digital marketer to pursue music full-time. The decision, though filled with uncertainty, proved fateful. Her breakthrough arrived in 2020 with the global anthem “Essence,” featuring Wizkid and later Justin Bieber, which soared into the Billboard Top 10 and introduced her voice to the world.
Since then, Tems has repeatedly made history. In 2023, she became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy, earning Best Melodic Rap Performance for her contribution to Future’s “Wait for U.” She followed this triumph by winning the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance in 2024 for her powerful solo track, “Born in the Wild.”
Through it all, Tems remains grounded, embracing a future she once could hardly envision. Her story continues to inspire, proving that sometimes the biggest dreams are the ones you never dared to dream at all.
