Makkonen, Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage moniker The Weeknd, has changed his social media profiles to reflect his true name, officially altering his online persona.
The Weeknd will now be releasing music under his birth name Abel Tesfaye

Tesfaye stated in a W Magazine interview that he intended to “kill The Weeknd” as a part of his own cathartic process.
While he still intends to make music, he wants to lose his artistic ego and reinvent himself. He may release his next album after that, but first, as seen by the renaming of his social media profiles.
Notably, The Weeknd recently experienced great success, setting two Guinness World Records: first artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners and highest number of Spotify monthly listeners.
Additionally, his song “Die for You” became his eighth chart-topping smash and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
