Bayern Munich are learning all about Daniel Levy’s ways as he continues to hold out for the full Harry Kane asking price and ignores assorted deadlines and offers. But the Germans are preparing their fourth bid – and second final one – for the striker as we speak, it says here…
Final countdown
It’s fine if you’re very, very bored of the Harry Kane Transfer Saga. But we think we might now be at the bit of a repetitive Stewart Lee routine where it gets funny again. Certainly we’ve thoroughly enjoyed Bayern Munich’s client journalists finding out all about Daniel Levy in real time.

Anyway, after Spurs rejected Bayern Munich’s third and final offer because 100 million euro still isn’t the same as £100m no matter how many times Bayern Munich say it, the German giants are now apparently readying yet another final bid according to the Telegraph. Whether this final final bid with its very important and real deadlines will get the job done remains to be seen, but the Times have reiterated that if it doesn’t happen this week it won’t happen at all with Spurs and more importantly Kane himself viewing the start of the season as the end point for any negotiations.
We’re absolutely certain that will not in any way be the end of it but there’s certainly a growing sense that Bayern, a club very much used to getting their own way, have rather backed themselves into a corner here. They’ve sunk a lot of time and effort into signing a player who was only ever going to be sold at the price Spurs and Levy wanted and made clear right at the start of proceedings. Bayern would have known that if they’d paid any attention to literally any other high-profile Levy negotiation. He stonewalls these things like nobody else and does not give a single solitary f*** if he enrages a superclub. He got Real Madrid to pony up for Modric and Bale, and that was after they pretty much went on strike to force their moves through. Kane is clearly happy enough to join Bayern, but he’s not anywhere like as bothered as he was about joining City two years ago. All the focus on post-match waves after the Shakhtar friendly rather ignored the fact he’d played 80 minutes of that game and scored four goals. There’s simply no way he would have played in such a game at all two years ago.
Anyway, the latest potential replacement/partner/back-up to Kane being touted in the Mail is Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. Spurs are willing to include Joe Rodon and/or Djed Spence – who had a brilliant year on loan at the City Ground in Forest’s promotion season – as sweeteners.
Neymar no-go
Brazil superstar Neymar is pushing for an exit from Paris Saint-Germain this month, raising the prospect of the Parisian side losing all three of its superstar forwards in the same summer. Lionel Messi has already sauntered off to MLS semi-retirement, while the Kylian Mbappe contract standoff rumbles ever on.
PSG would apparently be willing to sell Neymar for £60-70million according to the Evening Standard, while L’Equipe say the Brazilian has his heart set on a return to Barcelona.
One tiny fly in that particular ointment is that Barcelona don’t really want Neymar, with head coach Xavi pretty clear on this.
“I’m surprised by the rumours. He’s not in our sports planning. I really like him as a person and a friend, but we have different priorities.”
Another possible destination touted in French media is Chelsea and a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino. But the Standard are ruling that one out, pretty reasonably, on the grounds that his wages are daft and it doesn’t really fit with what Pochettino is trying to do at Chelsea in moulding a young squad over an extended period of time. Signing Neymar anyway for silly money would nevertheless be an extremely Todd Boehly thing to do, so we’d be loathe to rule out the possibility entirely.
PSG, meanwhile, are expected to fill those potential gaps in their frontline with Ousmane Dembele and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos.
Take it or Lavia it
Dreadful sub-headline, that. But never mind. Liverpool are getting closer to Southampton’s £50m valutation of Romeo Lavia but according to Sky Sports won’t be getting him unless they cough up the full amount. The latest offer was five million short and has been knocked back. Chelsea are also sniffing around a signing that definitely feels much more Poch than a Neymar daftness.
Liverpool remain favourites and confident of getting it done, though, with the Liverpool Echo reporting their interest in Fluminense’s Andre has cooled as they home in on Lavia.
