Transfer gossip: Liverpool shortlist three defenders as Bayern annoy Levy over Kane

Liverpool face competition from Newcastle and Tottenham for two of their defensive targets, while Chelsea will try again to tease Paulo Dybala to the Premier League…

LIVERPOOL TARGET DEFENSIVE TRIO
Having signed a couple of midfielders, Jurgen Klopp reportedly isn’t yet finished remodelling his engine room. But Liverpool seem to be breaking off from that job to strengthen the manager’s defensive options.

The Reds remain interested in Levi Colwill. The England Under-21 international is currently on international duty but once he returns to Chelsea, having spent last season on loan at Brighton, the focus will quickly shift to the 20-year-old’s future.

According to football.london, Colwill is high on Liverpool’s list, but Chelsea remain determined to pin him down to a new deal – presumably more so than they were with Mason Mount – with his current contract due to expire in two years. The defender will be looking for assurances over his playing time, with the Blues well-stocked for central defenders and Benoit Badiashile, another left-sided centre-back, has impressed since he moved to Stamford Bridge in January.

Liverpool have also shortlisted two other defenders, says Football Insider. One is Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Ignacio, who is said to have a release clause worth £51.5million. Newcastle are also keen on the 21-year-old. While Liverpool will have competition should they decide to make a decisive move for Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, who is a target for Tottenham.

BAYERN MEETING WITH KANE LEAVES LEVY SEETHING
It seems Bayern Munich have poked the bear while chasing Harry Kane…

Bayern have had one bid rejected by Tottenham, since when they’ve been trying to suss out their next move. Daniel Levy was said to be keeping his cards very close to his chest but it has emerged that he was working on a huge new contract offer to put to his club’s record signing.

Given Kane remains tied to Tottenham for at least one more year, Levy is said by Bild to have been dismayed at Bayern turning up on the striker’s doorstep. Apparently, Thomas Tuchel met with Kane at his house in May when Bayern left encouraged over the player’s intentions.

But going behind Levy’s back could cost them. The Spurs chairman is said to want to make Bayern ‘bleed’ and will almost certainly reject a second, much-improved offer worth around £85million.

CHELSEA EYE PREM MIDFIELDERS, SERIE A ATTACKER
Back to Chelsea, where Mauricio Pochettino has spent the week getting his feet under the table at Cobham. With pre-season now underway, the Blues can get back to the business of buying and selling.

Chelsea are reported by football.london to be prepping a bid for Moises Caicedo which could be worth £85million to Brighton. Sky Sports says Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is also an option as Pochettino looks to reinforce his new midfield.

The Blues have already signed a couple of forwards but Pedro Almeida reckons that want at least one more since talks have taken place with the representatives fo Roma attacker Paulo Dybala.
