Real Madrid’s opening offer for Harry Kane is doomed to fail, which could give Man Utd the chance to show they are a serious club. Also: Barca are a financial mess, and water is wet…
REAL WASTE OF TIME OVER KANE
Once Tottenham confirm the appointment of Ange Postecoglu, on a two-year contract with the option for an additional year, the focus at Spurs will very quickly shift to moving on some of their deadwood. And perhaps their greatest-ever goalscorer.
The Telegraph reckons Harry Kane could be one of ‘seven or eight’ first-teamers to go, with Hugo Lloris also set to depart. So where next for Kane?
Manchester United want the England striker but the Red Devils seem very downbeat over their chances. They could be helped, though, by the fact that Real Madrid are set to low-ball Spurs with their opening offer.
Sport says Real will go to Daniel Levy with £69million, despite Spurs valuing Kane at £103million. Aside from sheer stubbornness, Levy wants top dollar for Kane to fund a rebuild under Postecoglu, which The Mirror says could feature Leicester playmaker James Maddison, Brentford keeper David Raya and Wolves defender Max Kilman.
GUNDOGAN GIVEN CHANCE TO GO HOME
Real aren’t the only Spanish club looking for a deal. Broke-ass Barcelona don’t appear to be able to afford Ilkay Gundogan, despite having chased him hard for the last few months.
Gundogan is out of contract at Manchester City this summer and could play his last game for the Premier League champions in the Champions League final on Saturday night. City haven’t given up hope of keeping the German but it certainly seems as though a move to Barca appeals to the midfielder.
But Sport says Barca are struggling to make the numbers add up. Their work around involves giving Gundogan a three-year deal on reduced wages, with Arsenal currently offering the 32-year-old a two-year contract. A proposal from Saudi is also expected, but there could also be another option for the former Borussia Dortmund star…
Bild reckons a return to Dortmund could be on the cards, with the Bundesliga runners-up on the hunt for midfielder to replace Real-bound Jude Bellingham.
LIVERPOOL, BAYERN TO BOOST BARCA’S COFFERS?
If they can’t afford Gundogan’s wages, Lord knows how they intend to pay Lionel Messi should the Argentina superstar swerve Saudi and Inter Miami. Which, according to Gerard Romano, is Mrs Messi’s preference.
Barca could raise a few euros by selling Raphinha to Bayern Munich. Sky Sports says Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the former Leeds winger and the Bavarians will submit a bid soon.
Liverpool could also do Barca a favour by taking Franck Kessie off their hands. Sport says the Reds are willing to fork out £30million for the ex-AC Milan midfielder, who moved to the Nou Camp as a free-agent a year ago.
