Manchester United are hoping to raise £100million from 13 players they’ve valued at a combined £200million, while Adrien Rabiot is back on the Red Devils’ radar…
SANCHO AMONG 13 UP FOR SALE
Manchester United are making a slow start to their summer recruitment – not helped by Chelsea’s demands for Mason Mount – but they don’t seem to be waiting for progress on a possible takeover before pushing for sales.
The Daily Mail says United will listen to offers for up to 13 players in the hope of raising £100million. The most notable names are Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire. The Red Devils hope their captain might fetch £40million – half the price they paid Leicester in 2019 – while Sancho could be signed for £45million. They would accept £25million for Martial.
United want £20million apiece for Fred, Anthony Elanga and Dean Henderson, while Hannibal Mejbri, Eric Bailly, Brandon Williams and Alex Telles could be worth a combined £30million.
FOUR ALTERNATIVES TO MOUNT
Amid their so-far-fruitless pursuit of Mount, United are also talking again to Adrien Rabiot’s ma…
Rabiot was a target for United last summer but they failed to agree personal terms with the Juventus midfielder. This year, the France star is out of contract and can move for free after a fine season in Juve’s engine room. But, as a free agent, Rabiot is hardly likely to drop his salary demands.
Still, that isn’t deterring United from trying again, according to The Athletic, which reports that contact has also been made with Moises Caicedo’s representatives. ESPN says Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus and Utrecht’s USA international Taylor Booth are also being looked at. Any would be smart signings, but all could be being used to turn the screw on Chelsea or to encourage Mount to do his bit to persuade the Blues to lower their demands.
GVARDIOL WANTS CITY SWITCH
Manchester City are having rather more joy with Chelsea when it comes to Mateo Kovacic. The Treble winners also want to reunite the midfielder with his Croatia team-mate Josko Gvardiol.
City are said to be ready to submit a £68million offer for the centre-back but RB Leipzig have already made it clear that won’t enough. The Germans want Gvardiol to go for no less than the current record fee for a defender – £85million, paid by United for Maguire.
The Sun says City could come up to that amount, with £7million in the form of add-ons. But Gvardiol is said to have helped things along by telling Leipzig that he wishes to leave and join the European champions.
