Transfer Rumours: Saudi Clubs Eye Summer Swoop for Premier League Stars Salah and Fernandes

Liverpool’s Egyptian King and Manchester United’s captain headline a massive 50-player shortlist, as the Saudi Pro League prepares for another ambitious transfer window.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes are the headline Premier League names on a sprawling 50-man transfer shortlist drawn up by Saudi Pro League clubs, according to a new report.

The future of Liverpool’s star forward, Mohamed Salah, has become a topic of intense speculation in recent weeks. Despite signing a contract until 2027, tensions surfaced publicly in December when Salah, frustrated by being left out of the starting lineup, suggested the club had “thrown me under the bus” and admitted he had “any relationship” with new manager Arne Slot at the time. Although he was briefly dropped, positive talks led to a swift return to the squad.

Now, talkSPORT reports that Saudi sides made tentative checks on his availability following those comments. However, clubs including Al Hilal have been informed the 31-year-old will not be leaving Liverpool in the current January window.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes faces renewed uncertainty. The Portuguese midfielder rejected a staggering £100 million move to Al Hilal last summer, stating his desire to stay at United and compete at the top level. However, he revealed in a December interview that the club’s hierarchy had “wanted” him to leave, casting doubt on his position should another major offer arrive this summer.

The Saudi shortlist, as reported by The Telegraph, is vast and includes several other high-profile figures. It notably features departing Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, who emotionally announced his summer exit on social media, writing: “Four months to give my all for this badge… Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United.”

Other surprising names linked include Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and, most significantly, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, who is reportedly at odds with manager Xabi Alonso and stalling on a new contract. Premier League talents like Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans are also said to be under consideration.

To finance these potential mega-deals, the report suggests Saudi clubs could offload several of their own current stars. Big-name departures might include former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, ex-Wolves captain Ruben Neves, and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, all of whom are out of contract this summer.

The stage is set for another summer of seismic transfer activity, with the futures of two of English football’s biggest icons firmly in the spotlight.
