Trump Faces Impeachment Calls Over Unauthorized Iran Strikes

Lawmakers Accuse President of Reckless Escalation, Violating War Powers Act

President Donald Trump is under fire from Democratic lawmakers following unauthorized U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, with top senators and representatives declaring his actions “clear grounds for impeachment.”

The backlash erupted after Trump ordered bombings targeting Iran’s key nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—without Congressional approval. In a post on Truth Social, the President boasted about the mission’s success, stating, “A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.” He added that no nation could execute such an operation better than the U.S. and called for peace.

But Democrats argue Trump’s unilateral move dangerously bypassed constitutional checks. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer condemned the decision, writing on X: “No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy.” He demanded enforcement of the War Powers Act, which restricts a president’s authority to deploy military force without Congressional consent.

Progressive lawmakers echoed Schumer’s outrage. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused Trump of “impulsively risking a war that may ensnare us for generations,” while Congresswoman Ilhan Omar called the strikes “a dangerous and reckless escalation” in the already volatile Middle East. “This madness must end before more lives are lost,” she urged.

Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari went further, labeling Trump’s actions “illegal” and vowing to push for an emergency Congressional session to vote on the War Powers Resolution.

The White House has yet to respond to the impeachment threats, but the escalating confrontation sets the stage for a bitter political battle as tensions with Iran reach a boiling point.
