U.S. Offers $25,000 Reward for Information on Fugitive Nigerian Father Accused of Killing Son

Olalekan Olawusi, now on the U.S. Marshals Service’s Most Wanted list, is sought for first-degree murder after disappearing mid-trial.

The U.S. government has announced a $25,000 reward for any information that could lead to the capture of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian man residing in Rhode Island who is facing serious charges, including the alleged murder of his infant son.

A statement by U.S. Marshal Don Freeman noted that Olawusi, 48, was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder for “inflicting bodily injury to a child” and for “unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.” Olawusi has now been added to the U.S. Marshals Service’s “15 Most Wanted” fugitives list.

The incident, which occurred on April 3, 2017, led police and firefighters to find the severely injured three-month-old child, who was quickly taken to the hospital. Medical examinations revealed critical injuries to 18 parts of the child’s body, which led to Olawusi’s arrest. Although he was initially arraigned on April 20, 2017, he went missing the same day after being released, leaving the case unresolved.

U.S. Marshals urge anyone with information on Olawusi’s location to come forward, offering the substantial reward to assist in bringing him to justice.
