His decision to collaborate with these Nigerian talents underscores his keen interest in the burgeoning Afrobeats movement.
In a recent interview with Apple Music, Usher shed light on his motivations behind embracing Afrobeats and collaborating with Burna Boy and Pheelz. He credited Pheelz for influencing his collaboration with Burna Boy, highlighting the profound impact of Nigerian music on his creative journey.
“I am all about collaboration and bringing African, you know, Nigerian culture to my own world. Their music is really popular now. I wanted to be part of it [Afrobeats], that’s why I went to Africa to make this album,” Usher revealed.
Reflecting on his experiences in Ghana and Nigeria, Usher expressed admiration for the vibrant music scenes and cultural richness he encountered. Working closely with Pheelz, he recognized the immense talent and creativity within the Nigerian music industry, leading to the creation of the track “Homecoming” featuring Burna Boy.
