Spanish manager reveals admiration for United stars amid speculation over Ten Hag’s replacement
Xavi Hernandez has identified Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes as the two players he would prioritize if he were to step in as Manchester United’s new manager. Following Erik ten Hag’s departure after a challenging start to the season, Xavi has emerged as a favorite to take the reins at Old Trafford. According to the Daily Mail, United intermediaries have already initiated talks with Xavi’s representatives.
Xavi, who left Barcelona over the summer, has openly expressed his admiration for English football, despite never having played in the Premier League himself. Before Barcelona’s Europa League face-off against United in 2023, he spoke highly of Rashford and Fernandes, highlighting their dynamic play. “In transition, Rashford is incredibly dangerous—he’s one of the most threatening players in Europe,” Xavi told Mundo Deportivo. He also praised Fernandes, describing the Portuguese midfielder as crucial for United’s attack.
Xavi mentioned Jadon Sancho and Fred in his assessment of United last season but singled out Rashford and Fernandes as standout talents he would be eager to build a team around. While United’s search for a permanent manager continues, Ruud van Nistelrooy has assumed interim management of the squad.
